Faber

Project Faber is primarily concerned with the notion of human stories, experiences, connections and memories with relation to inanimate hand made objects. It seems like there is a gradual loss of humanistic relationship with modern day mass made products. There is a strong sense of immediacy for a product and a lot of emphasisin today’s society is placed on speed and efficiency. The old is disposed of and the new transitioning into the old is readily evident. Value is only temporarily placed on these products and is often only monetary in nature. Most consumer products are in this realm of planned obsolescence, facing an inevitable use by date. When it passes this date the objects becomes obsolete. It seems miserable that the majority of products we interact with on a daily basis only hold transitory value. I’m interested in how we can draw a closer, more enduring, emotional and experiential relationship between the user and the inanimate object. The crux of Faber lies in the exploration into the intrinsic values of hand made objects and its ability to facilitate memory, marking a special moment in time.
