Vestige of Movement
Vestige of Movement is a wall light feature located in Sydney’s Dawes Point - the historic location of the old Horse Ferry Wharf that operated over a century ago. The light exists to acknowledge the largely forgotten significance of the site’s history as the major axis point of transportation across the water prior to the Sydney Harbour Bridge. The design incorporates flowing lines that suggest the paths of movement to and from the site on a body of water, and the material choice of a metal feature (aluminium sheet) parallels the man-made, vehicular nature of a ferry boat. The light itself is positioned within the only remaining evidence of the wharf. It acts as a visual aesthetic element for passers by rather than a central feature of the site, triggering memory and thoughts into the past.
