Pamiec (Polish for Remembrance)

was a site responsive installation in the Shipyards of Gdansk, Poland June/July 2012. Pamiec means remembrance in Polish. This work was an interactive candle/wax sculpture. A chandelier of upside down candles represented the past and a melted drippings pile beneath created a dialogue connecting the past with the future - a future which is open to change. The community was invited to share in re-imagining the future as the shipyards are being destroyed through this interactive work. The audience lit tea-light candles while listening to Gorecki’s Third Symphony and after a time of reflection they poured wax onto the collected drippings.
