Following alternative trends and lifestyles has formed many dynamic social and cultural groups amongst Generation Y. The common factor prevalent in each group is that participants strive to portray a unique identity. Some of the most popularly labeled identities include; Hipsters, lads, hippies, emo’s/gothics/punks, straight edge and social climbers. Generation Y’s attempts in leading individual entities has led to the shifting nature of cultural identities. The irony is that the abundance of people striving to create individual identities has led to social-subcultural groups, in which partakers become one of many.
