As an Indonesian living in Australia, I wanted to explore my Indonesian cultural heritage using skills that I have acquired while living in Australia. Mortar and pestle or cobek and ulekan, are standard kitchen utensils in Indonesian kitchens and they come in many sizes depending on use. Small cobek and ulekan are typically used to serve chili sauce condiment My exploration of the Indonesian/Australian influence extends to the application of Indonesian batik fabric patterns onto Australian Southern Ice porcelain body.
