‘Surry Hills in habitat’
Textile designs from the range ‘Surry Hills in habitat’. This range was created in response to the Sydney suburb Surry Hills, focusing particularly on its architecture and inhabitants, using recycled upholstery fabric, Permaset ink and thread. Clockwise from top left: 1. ‘View from the top’ stencil-cut screen print and patchwork, critises the grandiosity of Surry Hills dwellings . 2. ‘Home bender’ collaged fabric length, compares student housing to the regular occupancies of the homeless. 3. ‘Long way home’ screenprinted fabric length. A warped impression of Surry Hills housing. 4. ‘In Habitat’, emulsion screenprint. This repeat print pattern depicts the various types of residencies in a harmonious formation.
