Hanoi

After travelling around Vietnam I was captivated by the chaos of the streets. Tangled balls of electrical wires hang down onto the pathway where kids play, trains run down alley ways and scooters drive through red traffic lights. In response to this overwhelming chaotic lifestyle I experienced while travelling, I created a large painting with sculptural elements. Through this work I also wanted to inform the audience of the urban lifestyle, culture and the grittiness of the city life. I illustrate the beauty that is hidden and unappreciated within the decaying aspects of the city. I show the disintegration of architecture and objects which can accurately symbolize the power of humans to destroy and control the life span of a landscape. Instead of using monochromatic colours and dark tones I applied bright vibrant colours which embody the life that still exists within the image through the memories held there and identity that remains.
